What to Wear for Navratri 2026: Nine Colours, Nine Looks

Navratri is where the year turns.

Nine nights in October, and the whole season opens behind them Karwa Chauth, Diwali, the winter weddings, the dinners that fill the calendar from here until January. Everything that follows is dressed for. Navratri is simply the first of it.

At Ridhi Mehra, a collection begins with colour. A shade held against raw silk, against chanderi, against Banarasi, weeks before a silhouette is drawn. So nine days arranged around nine colours is not a puzzle to us. It is the way, we already thinks.

Navratri 2026 Dates and Colours

Sharad Navratri 2026 begins on Sunday, 11 October with Ghatasthapana and runs to Monday, 19 October. Dussehra falls on Tuesday, 20 October.

Last year's list won't help you. The sequence follows the weekday the festival opens on Sunday orange, Monday white, Tuesday red, Wednesday blue, Thursday yellow, Friday green, Saturday grey with purple and peacock green closing the cycle. Navratri 2026 begins on a Sunday, so it opens in orange.

Choosing a Navratri dress for women across Nine Days

A Navratri wardrobe changes as the week goes on. The early days call for lighter fabrics chanderi, soft silks, a kurta set you can wear for hours without thinking about it.

By Ashtami and Navami the evenings get longer and the rooms get fuller, and that's where Banarasi silk and heavier embroidery belong. The colours deepen too, from marigold and ivory at the start to red, green and lilac by the end.

Navratri Outfit Ideas 2026: The Nine Shades, Styled

Day 1 | Orange, Sunday 11 October

Orange is generous in fragments and demanding in full. Deep marigold, saffron and rust hold under daylight and warm lamplight alike; a flat bright orange rarely does.

Surkh Kurta Salwar Set

Surkh Kurta Salwar Set sits exactly in that register, an organza embroidered flared kurta with a silk drape salwar and net embroidered dupatta, in rust orange. It also comes in red, fuchsia, purple, navy and black, so it carries across more than one day of the week.

Suroor Kurta Salwar Set

Suroor Kurta Salwar Set is the quieter version of the same idea: an organza embroidered kurta with a silk salwar and fine silk embroidered dupatta, also in rust orange. Ready to Ship, dispatching in 7 to 10 days.

Day 2 | White, Monday 12 October

The most forgiving day of the nine and the one best suited to our kind of work. Ivory, chalk and bone in tissue or organza catch light without weight, and tonal embroidery does more in white than colour ever can.

The Imperial Kurta Set

The Imperial Kurta Set is the piece for it an organza embroidered kurta with a silk salwar and organza dupatta, in ivory. Organza over organza, with the embroidery doing all the work.

This is also the day for a pre-draped saree. Ivory photographs beautifully, and a drape holds its line through a long evening in a way a traditional saree simply doesn't; the pleats stay exactly where you set them. Gold jewellery, and not much of it.

Day 3 | Red, Tuesday 13 October

Red belongs to Durga, and it's the shade you're least likely to get wrong. The distinction worth drawing is between wedding red and festive red particularly this year, with Karwa Chauth arriving on 29 October and most women reaching for red again.

What to Wear for Navratri

Ravani Lehenga Set in red is our answer for the fuller occasion. Banarasi silk, an embroidered bustier, and an organza embroidered cape that you can lose as the evening warms. The cape is what keeps it from reading bridal.

Sargam Anarkali Set

If you'd rather a single fluid line, Sargam Anarkali Set in red gives you Banarasi silk in a full anarkali with a net embroidered dupatta. Less structure, more movement, and easier to sit through a long puja in.

Day 4 | Blue, Wednesday 14 October

Blue is underrated, and exceptional after dark. It holds silver and gold embroidery better than almost any shade in the sequence the contrast does half your styling before you've chosen a single accessory. The day's traditional shade is royal blue, though anything from cobalt to powder sits comfortably within it.

Azure

Azure takes the lighter route: a printed chanderi straight kurta with matching straight pants in a powder blue floral print. Easy enough for a morning at home, finished enough to keep on through the day. Also in dusky pink, sage green, yellow, fuchsia and black.

Sylvie

Sylvie is the same print in a fuller line, a flared chanderi kurta with tulip pants, in powder blue floral. The flare gives it more movement for an evening.

A sharara set in deeper sapphire with silver work needs very little help either. Add a belt if you want to change the silhouette entirely without changing the outfit.

Day 5 | Yellow, Thursday 15 October

Yellow fails more often than any other colour here, and the reason is almost always the shade rather than the wearer. Pastel and lemon wash out under pandal lighting and party lighting equally. Turmeric, marigold and mustard hold their ground.

Descent Kurta Set

The Descent Kurta Set is the fuller option, a georgette embroidered long kurta with a gathered sharara and a net embroidered bordered dupatta, in yellow. Georgette moves, which matters on an evening that runs long.

For the men in the house, our Rasm Kurta Set in yellow chanderi with yoke embroidery lands on this day exactly.

Day 6 | Green, Friday 16 October

Emerald and bottle green are two of the strongest festive shades of 2026, as jewel tones return and pastels recede. Green also photographs better under warm light than almost anything else you own.

What to Wear for Navratri 2026: Nine Colours, Nine Looks

Jhoom Lehenga Set is the piece we'd choose. Printed raw silk, embroidered, with a net dupatta, in a lush green multicoloured that reads rich rather than loud and gives you somewhere to go with your jewellery.

Camellia

Camellia is the easiest way into it, a printed chanderi anarkali with matching pants and a net dupatta, in sage green. Chanderi holds its shape through a long day without asking anything of you, and sage sits quietly enough for a morning puja and well enough for dinner after.

Day 7 | Grey, Saturday 17 October

The day everyone dreads, and the one we most enjoy dressing.

Grey fails when it's flat and works when it's metallic. Pewter, gunmetal and silver-grey in tissue or sequinned organza turn what sounds like a dull evening into the most modern look of the nine. There's an advantage here that traditional festive dressing doesn't have grey isn't a conventional festive shade, so there are no rules to break. A grey sequinned co-ord or peplum set on Day 7 will be the most contemporary thing in the room, and you'll wear it again in December.

Day 8 | Purple, Sunday 18 October

Purple falls on or beside Ashtami, one of the most significant days of the nine, and it deserves the strongest piece you own.

Fasana

Fasana Anarkali Set is the simplest answer, an embroidered georgette anarkali with a net embroidered dupatta, in purple. Two pieces, one line, nothing to adjust. Ashtami involves sitting, serving and moving between rooms for hours, and a georgette anarkali lets you do all of it. A heavily corseted silhouette does not.

Mannat Kurti Sharara Set

Mannat Kurti Sharara Set is the more contemporary cut: a chiffon embroidered short kurti with a chiffon kali sharara and net embroidered dupatta, also in purple. The kali sharara gives it movement without the weight of a lehenga.

Day 9 | Peacock Green, Monday 19 October

Teal and blue-green close the nine, and it's the most universally flattering shade in the sequence, it holds zari and cutdana beautifully and reads deep rather than bright.

Nazneen Peplum Garara Set

Nazneen Peplum Garara Set is the piece for it, a printed chiffon embroidered peplum top with a chiffon garara and net embroidered dupatta, in green print. Chiffon on chiffon, so the volume never turns into weight, which matters on Navami, when the dinners run late and you're on your feet for most of them.

Dussehra, Tuesday 20 October

Any colour works on Dussehra, which is part of why it's usually the best-dressed night of the ten. It also lands at the end of a long week. In Hyderabad, Bathukamma has been running alongside Navratri since the eleventh flower towers built up through the evenings, courtyards full of women in bright silks and the celebrations carry through to Dussehra two days later.

These are evenings spent moving between houses, standing, greeting, with jammi leaves passed around as bangaram, so the outfit needs to work from every angle for a few hours at a stretch.

Jhoom does that well: printed raw silk in lush green multicoloured, enough colour to hold its own against marigold, and a print busy enough that the jewellery can stay simple. Ravani is the quieter choice, Banarasi silk in deep onion pink or fuchsia, with the organza cape.

For the Men in the Family

Navratri rarely stops at one wardrobe. Explore our menswear line:

Parvaz Bandi Set

What to Wear for Navratri 2026

Chanderi allover embroidered sleeveless bandi with kurta and trousers, in ivory. The right register for Ashtami and Navami, where a sherwani is too much and a plain kurta too little.

Humnava Bandi Set

designer navratri outfits

Raw silk embroidered bandi over chanderi kurta and trousers, in powder blue. Soft enough for daytime puja, considered enough for dinner.

Rasm Kurta Set

Chanderi with yoke embroidery, in yellow. Festive without effort, and it lands on Day 5 exactly.

Muraad Bandi Set

designer navratri outfits

A raw silk sleeveless bandi with allover embroidery, worn over a chanderi kurta and churidar, in light beige. The lightest and most versatile of the four: quiet enough for a morning puja, finished enough for dinner afterwards, and it doesn't compete with what anyone else in the room is wearing. Also in dusky pink and silver green.

Which Fabric to choose for Navratri Shoping?

Mid-October across most of India is warm by afternoon and pleasant after sunset. That points to chanderi, organza, tissue and raw silk over anything heavier, particularly for daytime.

One practical note, and it's the reason our pre-draped sarees exist at all. A traditionally draped saree loosens with movement over a long evening pleats shift, the pallu slips, and you spend the night adjusting rather than enjoying it. A pre-draped saree holds its structure from the first hour to the last, and saves you twenty minutes in front of a mirror every single evening. Across nine days of dressing, often without help, that difference becomes the whole experience of the festival.

It's why the drape became our most-loved piece, and it's the piece we'd put you in first.

When to shop for Navratri?

Navratri opens on 11 October.

Ravani, Sargam, Jhoom and Parvaz are all made to order with an 8 to 10 week lead time, which means they're pieces to commission now for the wedding season ahead rather than for this month.

Frequently asked questions

Q1: When does Navratri 2026 start?

Sharad Navratri 2026 begins on Sunday, 11 October with Ghatasthapana and ends on Monday, 19 October. Dussehra falls on Tuesday, 20 October.

Q2: What are the nine Navratri colours for 2026?

Orange, white, red, royal blue, yellow, green, grey, purple and peacock green, in that order from 11 to 19 October.

Q3: Why do the Navratri colours change each year?

The sequence follows the weekday the festival opens on. Navratri 2026 begins on a Sunday, so it starts with orange.

Q4: Do you have to wear the colour of the day?

No. It's a festive custom rather than a religious requirement. Most people follow it through a dupatta or an accessory rather than a full outfit.

Q5: What should I wear on Ashtami?

Something formal but comfortable enough to sit on the floor in a Banarasi silk anarkali works well. The 2026 colour for Day 8 is purple.

Q6: What colour is worn on Dussehra?

Dussehra sits outside the nine-colour sequence, so there's no assigned shade.

Q7: What can I wear for Navratri other than a chaniya choli?

Saree sets, anarkalis, sharara sets, co-ords and peplum sets all suit puja mornings, family dinners and evening celebrations. Pre-draped sarees are easiest when you're dressing repeatedly across several days.

Q8: Where can I find designer Navratri outfits?

Our Festive Edit carries saree sets, anarkalis, sharara sets and co-ords across the Navratri palette. Ready to Ship pieces dispatch quickly; made-to-order carries an 8–10 week lead time.
